BIOGRAPHY

Daniel Jimenez Afanador is a Colombian born and Los Angeles based songwriter, composer and producer. Daniel has built a career on uncompromising creativity, artistic honesty, and strong work ethic; moving seamlessly between the sounds of his native Colombia, emotional songs, electronic sounds, and a mastery of the orchestra. Daniel earned a Telly Gold Award in craft use of music for his arrangement and production of the Sony Pictures’ 2022 LA Screenings trailer. He composed a new trailer for Sony Pictures in 2023. In 2021 Daniel scored “Demi’s Panic,” a short film by the Oscar nominated animator Bill Plympton. “Demi’s Panic” was long listed for the Academy Awards and Daniel was awarded a Reel Change Film Fund grant by New Music USA and Christoph Beck for his score. In 2019 Daniel co-wrote the opening song for the Sony Pictures Television show “El Barón.”

In addition to writing music for film and television, Daniel has a long history of successful collaborations as a songwriter and producer. He has produced and cowritten songs with artists like Becky G (pop mega star), Andy Allo (Prince collaborator and star of Amazon's “Upload”), Elan Atias (former singer for The Wailers ), Sergio Arau (front man of Mexican cult rock band Botellita de Jerez), Nicolle Jadad (Sony Music), Charlie Rey (The Voice finalist), Nathalia (Latin Grammy winning Children’s music artist), Cimarrón (Latin Grammy nominated Joropo group), Fruko y Sus Tesos (legendary salsa group), Fania Records, Inés Gaviria (Latin Grammy nominated artist) and many more.

Daniel has fronted various successful musical projects of his own. In 2005 Daniel formed Roxing Kafé, a pop-rock trio that would become a key band in Latin rock of the new millennium. As a solo artist he has released multiple singles, EPs, an album, and he has toured the United States, Mexico, Spain, Ireland and Colombia. His Spanish electro-pop group, Cinco Santos, reached the top 50 in Mexican radio and toured extensively across that country. His heavy rock band, Vikingo!, broke barriers in the LA rock scene with their politically charged anthems. In recent years Daniel has been working on Sound of Us, a project in which he collects sounds and stories from diverse peoples from around the world, and incorporates those sounds and stories into songs and a series of mini documentaries.
